South Island

If you thought the North Island was amazing, wait until you explore the South! Rich in mountains, glaciers, rivers and native bush, there is so much here waiting for you.
You’ll find amazing seafood in Kaikōura, Bluff, the Marlborough Sounds, and Rakaia and Gore. Wine connoisseurs will love the cellar doors in Marlborough and in Otago. Surfers will be itching to get into the Dunedin surf.
Hustle and bustle can be found in the cities of Christchurch and Dunedin, and remote landscapes can be discovered down the West Coast or in Fiordland. The southwest is home to Glacier Country, and opportunities to get into the mountains via helicopter abound.
If you’re after some thrills, Queenstown will not disappoint, and if you’re after some time out in the wilderness, you can take your pick of cycle trails and hikes. Snowbunnies have choices galore between Canterbury and Otago mountains.
If you’re after the beach, the East Coast has got you, and if you’re a bit of a waterfall chaser, get yourself into the Haast Pass or the Catlins Coastal Area. The options are endless.
